The Challenge
This comprehensive initiative demanded expertise in evaluating IT program requirements, consulting on the selection and strategic placement of security devices, and developing customized plans, policies, and procedures to meet the facility’s unique operational goals. The project also required alignment with stringent biosafety and biosecurity standards, including those mandated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Federal Select Agent Program (FSAP).
The Solution
World BioHazTec implemented a phased approach to meet the client’s objectives, ensuring proactive security measures to mitigate potential threats effectively.
In the first phase, World BioHazTec’s subject matter experts conducted an in-depth site review of the facility and its existing security plans. The team provided expert consultation on selecting security devices and head-end software, ensuring compatibility with the client’s existing security infrastructure and IT programs. Devices were strategically placed to optimize coverage and functionality while maintaining compliance with FSAP biosafety and security standards. Regular consultations and collaborative meetings were held with key stakeholders to address emerging needs and ensure alignment with operational goals.
In the second phase, World BioHazTec conducted a thorough gap analysis to assess the client’s current security policies and procedures against industry best practices and FSAP compliance requirements. The team began drafting a suite of critical documents, including a Biosafety Plan/Manual, a Security Plan, and an Incident Response Plan, all tailored to the facility’s specific needs. Interoperability between system users, stakeholders, security personnel, and the installed systems was prioritized to ensure seamless integration and functionality.
The Result
World BioHazTec’s team continues to oversee the creation of the necessary documentation to support and inform the client’s security activities. We have conducted one of two site visits to tour the facility, evaluate security vulnerabilities, evaluate placement of security devices, conduct threat analysis, review security plans, meet with key stakeholders, and develop plans, policies, and procedures. Throughout the process, we ensure that installations adhere to specifications and that the documented policies and plans reflect the user’s perspective while being tailored to the facility’s specific needs.
