The Challenge
ThirdLaw was in the beginning stages of renovating an existing chemistry laboratory to have the ability to conduct BSL-2 laboratory work. The proposed laboratory needed an initial site assessment to evaluate the facility space to meet BSL-2 certification criteria.
The Solution
During a comprehensive site visit, a World BioHazTec biocontainment engineer assessed the proposed lab space, gaining valuable insights into its layout and potential process flow. Employing a strategic approach, we conducted a thorough Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis to evaluate the laboratory site. Our expert advice on critical factors driving the necessity for the BSL-2 laboratory Program of Requirements (POR) was instrumental in guiding the project forward. With a focus on achieving both a successful design and long-term sustainability, we outlined clear next steps essential for the development of the BSL-2 laboratory.
The Result
After the completion of the onsite visit, all information gathered was reviewed and archived. The Report of Findings was prepared to include our observations and recommendations to achieve a BSL-2 laboratory that could meet biosafety guidelines and be certified to the BMBL. ThirdLaw shared the Report of Findings to their landlord and was able to make modifications to the laboratory.
